The Life Cycle of Butterflies
Caterpillars to Butterflies
The butterflies start as an egg. The egg is laid onto a leaf and if you look closely you can see the little caterpillar inside. The second stage is the caterpillar. In this stage they eat a lot so they can survive during the pupa stage. The pupa stage is one of the most interesting time of the butterfly's life. The caterpillar grows into a chrysalis. It looks like the butterfly is resting, but the caterpillar is changing quickly. This change is called metamorphosis. When the caterpillar is done changing it emerges from the pupa as a beautiful butterfly.
